SOFTYS WILL CERTIFY ITS PACKAGING MADE IN CHILE AS RECYCLABLE
Company adheres to Eco-Labeling Clean Production Agreement:
- The measure will allow the packaging of Elite, Confort, Nova, Babysec, Ladysoft and Cotidian products to be more environmentally responsible, in addition to promoting recycling among consumers.
- This certification is part of the Sustainability Strategy 2020 – 2023 of Softys and its participation in the Clean Production Agreement.
Santiago de Chile, November 5th. Softys —CMPC affiliate, of hygiene and personal care products with recognized brands such as Elite, Babysec and Confort— announced its commitment to certify the packaging and wrappers of its products manufactured in Chile, which will begin to take shape from next January , starting with the toilet paper and napkin lines.
This commitment will result in the most recognized brands that Softys manufactures in Chile -Elite, Confort, Nova, Ladysoft and Cotidian- will have packaging certified as recyclable and will carry the Ecolabel Seal, also called #Elijoreciclar , which will promote and encourage its recycling.
To obtain the seal, each container must go through a certification process that ensures that:
- At least 80% of the weight of the container is made of recyclable materials.
- These materials can be separated from the rest of the container, for later recycling.
- There is currently a demand from the recycling industry for these materials.
With this measure, the company adheres to the Eco-Labeling Clean Production Agreement led by the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), the Manufacturing Development Society (SOFOFA) and the Sustainability and Climate Change Agency, which resulted in the Seal of “Eco-labelling”, an initiative that already has 37 member companies.
The project is a two-year pilot that seeks to gather experience and information to, in the future, implement a second phase of greater scope and with the relevant improvements.
“At Softys, we seek to deliver the best care, for a better tomorrow, which extends not only to our customers and consumers, but also to the environment and our surroundings. For this reason, and in line with our Sustainability Strategy 2020–2023, it is a great achievement to adhere to an initiative which not only deals with making sustainability a key attribute of the value of our brands, in this case through the recycling of packaging, but also educate consumers in this circular economy process ”, said Nicole Sansone, Manager of Personal Care and Corporate Sustainability.
In this way, Softys deepens its Sustainability Strategy 2020-2023, a roadmap launched last July that has 4 specific pillars: facilitating a better life for people, co-building a sustainable economic environment, promoting the development of local communities and protecting the environment. Regarding this last point, this initiative also connects with the CMPC Companies Sustainability Commitments, especially with the goal of being a company with zero industrial waste to landfill by 2025.
